Working here allows me to continue to advocate for students of color and students whose needs have historically not been met. Working in a Title I school allowed me to see achievement gaps first hand and how inequity is prevalent in schools based on location. Public Impact can change that.”
Whitaker Brown
Consulting Manager
Whitaker Brown is a consulting manager with Public Impact®, leading a team focused on assisting districts and schools in implementing Opportunity Culture® models, which extend the reach of excellent teachers and their teams. Before joining the team, he spent four years as a middle school science teacher in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools—two as a Teach For America corps member—and served in an Opportunity Culture® role during his final year. During his time in the classroom, Brown was named a Project L.I.F.T. “Irreplaceable Teacher,” and he coached other teachers and helped to create a system of blended learning that resulted in dramatic student growth for the science team. Brown worked with the Reimagining Integration: Diverse and Equitable Schools (RIDES) project while obtaining a master’s degree in education policy and management from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he focused on teacher workforce policy and school diversity. Brown holds a bachelor’s degree in politics, with a minor in Spanish, from Princeton University.
Example projects: Brown’s recent work includes leading Opportunity Culture® design and implementation involving full-year, paid teacher residencies on Multi-Classroom Leader™ teams in four Texas school districts. He has also supported his team to provide scheduling and staffing technical assistance to over 30 schools in five Tennessee school districts to scale up access to low-ratio, high-dosage tutoring. He also co-authored the annual evaluation of the UNC system laboratory school initiative in partnership with the Education Policy Initiative at Carolina (EPIC).
