Lydia Freeman Kumar
Senior Manager, Professional Learning Services
Lydia Freeman Kumar is the senior manager of professional learning services at Public Impact®, where she leads the development and delivery of adult learning experiences virtually and in person. Kumar co-led the design and implementation of key features of the Opportunity Culture® portal, including its learning management system, survey tool, and document library. She previously served as a teacher-leader at KIPP Gaston College Preparatory in North Carolina, where she played a pivotal role in improving student outcomes, and as an English teacher who consistently led students to exceed expected learning growth. She began as a corps member with Teach For America as a fifth-grade science and social studies teacher in Northampton County, North Carolina. Kumar holds a B.A. in English and communication from Bluefield College and is pursuing an MBA at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Example Projects: Kumar’s recent work includes leading the development and delivery of in-person and virtual professional learning experiences, supporting the design and development of key product features within the Opportunity Culture® portal, contributing to federally funded research on teacher leadership effectiveness, and consulting with districts and schools on strategic staffing and program implementation. She has also supported Mathematica with a study involving the effect of teacher leadership on student results.
