Closing the opportunity gap has been a passion and focus of mine as an educator. Children do not get to choose their upbringing, school, or teacher; but they are still entitled to the best education possible. Opportunity Culture models can level the playing field to ensure all children achieve the growth and success they deserve.”
Heather Highsmith is a consultant at Public Impact, focused primarily on assisting schools and districts with Opportunity Culture design and implementation to extend the reach of excellent teachers and their teams. Highsmith began her teaching career as an educator in Armidale, New South Wales, Australia, supporting Aboriginal students with personalized learning pathways and community outreach programs. After returning to the United States, Highsmith was an elementary school teacher in multiple districts in Pennsylvania and Texas. Most recently, she held leadership roles as a math and science instructional specialist and math interventionist in Klein Independent School District in Texas, where she designed and implemented a schoolwide response to intervention program. She worked closely with teachers and administrators to identify students needing support both in and out of the classroom.
